There is a place in the center of town,
Where you can go to hear a sweet sound.
There.
There next to the street lamp
Between two houses of worship
Sits one who has no home on this earth.
His army green cap keeps his bald head warm.
His snow white beard, cut short,
Cannot keep the cold from nipping at his cheeks.
His shoes they are brown with holes in the soles.
His jacket is green and as wrinkled as his leathery face.
His pants they are worn almost through.
He sits there each day, his accordian in hand
Playing the songs of Zion.
His seat, it is low
A flat peach colored cushion
On top of an old grey milk crate.
He plays the songs of Zion.
His hands squeeze the box as his fingers they play,
Singing the songs of Zion.
"When sailing on life's stormy sea,"
Singing the songs of Zion.
"'Tis solace to my soul to know God hears my secret prayer."
Singing the sweet strains of Zion.
"Though hard to you this journey may appear,"
Singing the songs of Zion with his accordian rare.
"All is well! All is well!"

Singing the Songs of Zion

Murder!
I stood there looking down at her.
She was lying there,
Her broken body in pieces on the floor.
I remember thinking to myself,
“Boy, I’ve done it this time.”
We had met on beautiful Christmas Day.
She stopped at my parents’ house
To wish me a Merry Christmas.
I can remember it like it was yesterday.
She was finely shaped, small and flat.
She had no curves whatsoever, just lines.
Her square face and one good eye
Lit up as we came face to face.
It was the beginning of a great relationship.
She always did just as I asked
And me, I loved to push her buttons.
She had so many buttons!
My favorite button to push was “Delete.”
It would make her forget
What I had just said!
Then a little over a year after we met
She decided she’d had enough.
I asked her to do something
And her face started blinking
“Not Responding.”
If I bugged her enough
She would finally do as I asked.
This went on for a week and finally
I had had enough!
I pounded on all of her buttons with my fist
Causing her to beep-beep-beep at me.
I picked her head up off the desk
And threw it against the wall.
Then I took her hard drive
And threw it too…It shattered.
Into a million pieces it flew.
I stared in stunned silence.
I stood there looking down at her.
She was lying there,
Her broken body in pieces on the floor.
I remember thinking to myself,
“Boy, I’ve done it this time.”

Wishes
These are their wishes,
Blown far away on the breeze,
Never to return.
